CNN Gun Control Debate Review

I really hated having to listen to this debate. In fact, my overall respect for CNN just went down. He debate was incredibly unstructured. The majority of the time there were two or more people yelling at each other. Perhaps the he worst of them was the host himself. I can respect that he is very passionate about gun control but he should understand that nobody would respect his opinion if he doesn’t respect the other peoples’ opinions. I strongly agree with him though I didn’t like the way he showed his side of the argument. In contrast, the man who gave his opinion over the video was very respectful, calm even when the others were yelling and screaming. Even though I didn’t like his opinion at all, I respect him for not yelling over other people.

My opinion on gun control is that it is a must. Weapons like semi automatic Bushmaster rifle that was used in the shooting should not be widely available to the public. Another note is that despite what the gun lobby representative said, this rifle is not the same as any hunting rifle. Hunting rifle are bolt-action, meaning the rifleman has to work a bolt in the body of the rifle to eject the spent cartridge and load a new bullet manually (physically putting the bullet into the feed) or by the use of a magazine (in which case the spring would put the next bullet into position). A semi-automatic on the other hand, fires as fast as your finger can pull the trigger. Fundamental difference is that a Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle reloads itself, whereas a bold action hunting rifle does not.
If you ever doubt that that gun control is the best thing for America, look at things this way; You don’t see Canadian going around massacring each other with hunter rifles.
