Victor Antonio is a businessman, founder and CEO of the company Up Sales Influence. Victor gave a speech at the University of Phoenix to the graduating class of 2010. Victor’s message to the audience that day was not to let other people put an influence on our choices, and we should do what we think is right. In my opinion he took too long to get to his point. However, maybe it's a public speaking technique and Victor was just trying to make his speech more memorable so that we would never forget his message.
The
biggest part of Victor’s speech was definitely the humor. Humor is a very good
skill to have as a public speaker because it could be used to attract your audience and give them a good
laugh. In Victor’s speech, he used humor that was
suitable for both university students and adults. Victor not only used words to
make the audience laugh, as his facial and
hand gestures played a big part in his humor as well. I personally had noticed
that Victor likes using different people in his humor, and what I mean by this was that he likes using other people as examples speech.
A few examples he used was Joel Osteen, he said he had too much vocabulary and
couldn't keep up even with a dictionary.
All
public speakers know that a good speech aside from everything else needs to have good content. At the beginning of Victor’s
speech he had talked about how amazing North Carolina was and how beautiful the
war memorial was. By showing respect to the soldiers and thanking his audience
by complimenting the area Victor took down that barrier of being judgmental
from the audience. Victor used a story in his speech to deliver his point, and
story's is an effective way to keep your audience focused on you while you
reveal your message. In my own perspective, I thought Victors face was part of
the content because it was like watching a story play out with his facial and
hand gestures.
My favorite
part of the speech was not the humor, or the content. The part I thought that was
most interesting was his body movement, his gestures, his expressions and his
eye contact. I noticed one thing Victor did throughout his speech as Victor
breathed deeply, and you can hear him breathing deeply before every sentence. I
think that breathing deeply helps you calm down and prepare you to speak. The
second thing I noticed was a very small thing, but this just shows that Victor
has not left out anything that might make his speech more enjoyable for his
audience. The thing I noticed was that when Victor was talking as another
person he turned his body to face the other side of the stage to talk as the
other person, and when Victor turned he did not put his back towards his
audience to do it, these are two of the many things that Mathew had taught us.
Victors hand gestures were well incorporated into his speech and added even
more humor as well as made it more enjoyable for his audience. The best thing
about Victor’s eye contact was that he looked at everyone and never turned his
eyes away from the audience throughout his whole speech.
Overall
I thought Victor’s speech was one of the funniest speeches I have ever seen. I
have watched several other videos that he made, and even though they were about
how to sell your products to other people, it
did not seem boring at all. I think that Victor is truly one of the best humorous
motivational speakers of all time.
