Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech

When we were still excited by President Obama’s DNC speech and his enthusiastic progress report of the promises he made four years ago, Romney poured a bucket of cold water on our heads to make us rethink whether Mr. Obama was telling the truth or not. In the 2012 Republican Nomination Ceremony, Mr. Mitt Romney, the 2012 presidential nominee attracted his audiences by using many different strategies.

In Romney’s speech you may have noticed he talked about his family and his past a lot. Romney was known as a “rich and wealthy man” and a “successful business executive”.  He had the reputation that he cared about profit more than people. His strategy of mentioning his family would help him connect with different group of people and show his care and support to all different classes of Americans. He was attempting to relate to not only the high-class but also the low and middle class of Americans. Mr. Romney talked about his mom to show his belief that women should have the same right to make big decisions in America. He talked about growing up in Detroit to make the audience think he was one of the Detroit guys and he understood what it was like to work in a labor business.
Although it was not debating time that two candidates were going to do in October, Mr. Romney started his offence to President Obama in his speech.  Romney figured out Mr. Obama actually had disappointed and disaffected Americans. Mr. Romney was quite aggressive in his speech when talking about Obama. You might think Mr. Romney was too mean to his opponent, however, you would found out Mr. Romney was softer than usual if you watched his past speeches. He kept on targeting Obama, but he changed his strategy a little. He used less searing language as he did before. Mr. Romney said that Obama was optimistic when he made his promises four years ago and even the moment in his DNC speech. He said he would lower the middle-class taxes unlike Obama who would collect the money from the middle-class to support the poor. The people of America want what’s best for themselves and Romney said in his speech that if you where were the happiest when Obama was elected and not later on, you know there’s something wrong.

Mr. Romney’s main seller in his speech was his twelve million job plan. He used the same strategy as president Obama’s, which was used in his DNC speech: giving hope to all Americans. It should be an effective strategy to tear down opponent by giving the new hope to the potential voters. Mr. Romney assured Americans that he would make twelve million jobs for America with his five step plan. His first step was by 2020, North America will be energy independent. America will take full advantage of their oil and coal and gas and nuclear and renewables. His second step to give Americas citizens the skills they need for the jobs of today and for careers in the future. Third, America will make trade work by forging new trade agreements. Fourth, America will cut down deficit and put them on a balanced budget. And the final step, America will support small businesses as it is the main source of job growth. America will reduce taxes on business and simplify and modernize the regulations that hurt small businesses. Not sure the Americans would buy his plan or not, but American need to give Romney two terms as president to fulfill his goal if they choose to believe in him. I guess that the history might be just repeated after four years that Romney stands there to ask American to give him more time.
The race for presidency is at its climax; Romney and Obama are neck to neck. All the blaming Romney talked were true; no doubt Romney’s new strategy would win back some votes. However, America needs a leader working on the issues but not only blaming about the issues. I am looking forward to their debating in October Maybe Romney would bring a more practical plan and Obama would be more aggressive to his opponent.
