Introduction of the Class



Public Speaking Training Class
Goals:
  1. UNDERSTAND:  What makes a good presentation
  2. LEARN: How to manage fear of speaking
  3. DO: Become a Better speaker
Students  will:
  • Develop skills in how to organize presentations/speeches
  • Learn what basic skills are important in making presentations
  • Learn how to write 2 to 4 minute speeches which are organized and effective

  • Have the opportunity to write and present 3 to 5 speeches in class and receive constructive evaluations from the instructor

  • Learn principles of impromptu/extemporaneous speaking - How to speak "off the cuff"

  • Practice speaking off the cuff for 1 to 2 minutes


Videorecording of speeches is possible.

Students must bring a signed video release form if they want to have their work in the class recorded

Students are given assignments to write and practice their speeches in between sessions. Students will be given daily homework and expected to put in work outside of class.

  • Demonstrate How To
  • Using My Voice
  • Using Gestures
  • Being Persuasive

Other Skills
  • Eye Contact
  • Using Gestures and our bodies
  • Controlling Nervousness
