Martin Sheen Speech Review

“I’ve been an actor all of my life, in fact, I have no conscious memory of ever not being an actor. But while acting is what I do for a living, activism is what I do to stay alive.”

 That is a quote from Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez, an American film actor and political activist, who is better known by his stage name, Martin Sheen. On We Day 2010, in Vancouver, BC, Sheen gave an inspirational speech. He empowered the audience to find something in life that was worth fighting for – a world without poverty, a more eco-friendly planet, a place where everyone could have similar socioeconomic statuses.

 To many people, this speech is “amazing, captivating, thought provoking and brilliant,” quoting directly from the YouTube user ashleybaker3005. Part of what makes the speech so brilliant, is how he delivers the speech. When delivering the speech, he makes eye contact with the entire audience, makes use of the stage, and makes use of hand gestures. Although it was an amazing speech, I found that he seemed to always be rushing, which caused him to seem out of breath. Also, when the audience applauded, he didn’t realize it, he kept on speaking.
