"The Columbine" And Marilyn Manson

On April 12, 1999, two senior students who attended the Columbine High School committed an act that shocked the citizens of America.  This event became known as “The Columbine Shooting” or simply “The Columbine”.  The people of America wanted to know why these two introverted teenagers had murdered twelve of their fellow students at random.  People blamed drug use; violent media and toy guns.  Out of this list, one commonly said name was Marilyn Manson.

Marilyn Manson is a well known singer who does a large variety of rock and metal.  His music is significantly violent and often has references to drugs, murder, etc. His main audiences are teenager, just like the two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold that committed the famous shooting. This gives reason to believe that Marilyn Manson is part of the cause of The Columbine Massacre, but should he be the one to blame?

When someone idolizes another person, they would often listen to what the person says.  No one would be surprised if a Justin Bieber fan did something stupid because he told them to do so.  The same thing applies for all the other celebrities.  Marilyn Manson can easily affect his fans in bad ways. But does he really do that?  His song don’t necessarily promote hate and violence, although, they don’t describe them as bad concepts either. This, in the end, depends on how his fans interpret the songs.

In the interview, Manson defends himself by describing how the president is shooting bombs to countries across the world, but the experts still blame him.  Although, not a lot of people idolize the president but he still has a point.  The interviewer mentions how more bombs were sent on the day of the shooting than any other day.  Although it is ironic it is with no doubt a coincidence, but couldn’t the face that the shooters listened to Manson also be a coincidence?

In the end, I personally believe that Manson had no influence on the two shooters decisions. I think the main problem is High School bullying, mental issues and the lack of gun control in The U.S.A. More recently another shooting happened, only this time several Elementary School children were killed. It is time the Americans start thinking about safety of their children and not about polishing their guns
